Senator DiSanto to Serve on Key Committees for 2023-24 Session

Harrisburg – State Senator John DiSanto (Dauphin) has been appointed by Senate President Pro Tempore Kim Ward (Westmoreland) to serve on five key Senate standing committees for the 2023-24 legislative session.

Senator DiSanto will again serve as Chairman of the Banking and Insurance Committee, a position he has held since 2021. The committee has jurisdiction over the Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities and the Insurance Department. It is responsible for ensuring financial institutions and insurers comply with fiscally sound practices as well as promoting fair and healthy market competition that best serves Pennsylvania consumers and businesses.

“I am appreciative to Pro Tempore Ward for her confidence, and I am enthusiastic to be leading the Banking and Insurance Committee again,” said DiSanto. “My personal experience running a business and serving on bank boards of directors gives me a unique and informed perspective of these major industries that employ many Pennsylvanians and play vitally important roles in our communities’ economic and health care needs.”

“During my Chairmanship, we accomplished Pennsylvania’s most comprehensive overhaul of health insurance coverage determinations in more than two decades,” DiSanto said. “While many said health insurance prior-authorization was ‘too big’ to solve, I worked to bring industry stakeholders together, and now Act 146 of 2022 will ensure better collaboration between health care providers and insurers so that patients have timely and appropriate access to care. I look forward to building on our successes these next two years and ensuring consumers have good options for their financial services and insurance needs at affordable prices.”

Senator DiSanto has also been appointed Vice Chairman of the Urban Affairs and Housing Committee, as well as a member of the Education, the Labor and Industry, and the Transportation Committees. “These committee assignments will give me an influential voice in advancing my legislative priorities to improve Pennsylvania’s business competitiveness and jobs climate so that our kids and grandchildren can have a bright future here. I’m eager to get to work in this new session.”
